SAJEEVAM ANTI-DRUG CAMPAIGN, KERALA

Kerala, which is known as ‘God’s own country’ has now become the most fertile land of drugs. Usage and spread of drugs are increasing rapidly in all parts of the state and this fact is reflected in the enhanced number of crimes reported in Kerala. The most terrible fact is that, children less than the age of 10 are also trapped in this threat. Also the trend shows that majority of users are now addicted to synthetic drugs which is highly dangerous.  SAJEEVAM– Anti-Drug abuse Campaign, Kerala is an initiative put forward by KCBC with the support of Caritas India and KSSF in collaboration with 32 diocesan societies of Kerala to tackle this dreaded issue.

What is Sajeevam Task Force

A task force is a group of people who come together to do a specific job. These are groups or teams set up to solve a specific problem. Sajeevam Taskforce means a team for Tackling Drug Abuse. They are a group designed to build a strong and sophisticated defense system against this drug menace. They are our warriors against drug and substance abuse. They have well specified roles and responsibilities, ethics, working patterns etc.

The Sustainability plan of Sajeevam anti- drug campaign, Kerala through the Task Force. We planned to form task force in different levels. We would like to reach a large number of task force in grass root level.

Task force training-DSSS level

The team Sajeevam encourages the campaign officers to form more task force in DSSS level and Parish level. It is happy to notice that most of the DSSS started and formed task force. The officers understood the importance of task force formation.

On behalf of Sajeevam Anti-Drug Campaign Kerala, State level monitoring and evaluation could be done in DSSS level task force training at  28 DSSSs. State Coordinator Mr.Sajo Joy represented KSSF in the visits and led the sessions. A guidelines and implementation plans could give in these sessions

Anti-Drug day Observation/Sajeevam Sunday

There were many programmes associated with Anti-Drug Day observation. State level level observation was inaugurated Fr. Dr. Jolly Puthenpura, Executive Director of Caritas India  as part of Review meeting and Fr. Antony Fernandes, Associate Director of Caritas India, gave anti-Drug Day Message. All the DSSS observed Anti-Drug Day named as Sajeevam Sunday

DSSS level major programmes

  • Awareness classes

All the DSSSs mainly focused awareness classes for the reach of Sajeevam anti-drug campaign. There were 4225 awareness classes conducted in the last on year around Kerala in different target group.

  • Rally

Most of the DSSSs conducted different types of rally in connection with Sajeevam Anti-Drug campaign. It is clear that there were a large area could be covered and large reach could be attained form the Rallies

  • Poster making competition

One of the main activities done by the DSSS is that poster making and its competition. It could create a good mode of changing information and awareness

  • Formation of task force

Formation of the task force is one of the main milestones of the Sajeevam anti- drug campaign. The entire Diocese was involved in the task force formation in the DSSS level and parish/grass rout level.

  • Mime/ Street play

The youth and students involved in the campaign through Mime and street play. The social work students and different college students involved in the Mime and street play

  • Magic show

A special programme of different dioceses is magic show. They used to show there awareness creation through magic show. It got a wide impact among the audience

  • Football competition

There were many DSSSs conducted Football competition for the encouragement of youth and for channelizing the awareness of anti-drug movement and getting the involvement of more youth to the campaign

  • Musical drama

There was a Musical drama about anti-drug campaign team of ADS. It creates a wide range of reach of campaign in the public. The team played the drama in different parts of Kerala

Total Reach of Sajeevam Ant-drug campaign, Kerala

We could conduct a large number of programs in the banner of Sajeevam by various DSSS including task force formation at DSSS level and Parish/grass rout level; and KSSF Coordinated some events. All the 32 DSSS collectively conducted 24 categories of programs which include awareness classes, street plays etc. In total, Sajeevam Campaign has reached a population of 22,52,940 in the month of August 2024 with 13,875 programs all over Kerala.
